The Vice Chancellor’s PhD Scholarships

We support the doctoral candidates of today to become the researchers, innovators and leaders of the future.

Our Vice Chancellor’s PhD Scholarships include a fee waiver and stipend for three years (set at the level recommended by UK Research and Innovation).

Candidate requirements

Candidates should have (or expect to achieve) a 2:1 Bachelors Degree in a cognate discipline. A Masters degree in a relevant subject is desirable.

Applicants must be prepared to study on a full-time basis, attending at our Cambridge or Chelmsford campus, subject to UK Government Covid-19 movement restrictions. Please refer to the project descriptions for the location of each scholarship.

The VC PhD studentship awards are open to Home fee paying applicants only. If you are unsure of your fee status then please contact [email protected]

How to apply

Applications for a Vice Chancellor’s PhD Scholarship are made through our applicant portal. Underneath each project description you will find a link to the application form. Please ensure that you make a note of the project reference number or title as you will need to enter this on the form.

You will also need the following documents available electronically to upload them to the application portal (we can accept files in pdf, jpeg or Word format):

  1. Certificates and transcripts from your Bachelors and Masters degrees (if applicable)
  2. Your personal statement explaining your suitability for the project
  3. Passport and visa or EU Settlement Scheme share code (if applicable)
  4. Your CV

We will review all applications after the submission deadline of 25 April 2021. We will contact shortlisted applicants in the week commencing 10 May. Interviews will be held between 17 and 28 May. The interview dates for each project can be found under each project description.
